[00:00:00] Coming up, a park you cannot skip. A park that gets a bad reputation and it is unearned. We are talking about Hollywood Studios. We're laying out our favorite things and we are arguing about what makes something worthy of your time and attention all inside Hollywood Studios. And I know you guys dog it because you went there once and had crappy chicken soup. Don't get the crappy chicken soup. Don't sit inside. Sit outside. It's a good time. I love it.
[00:00:32] Hey there, everyone. Welcome to another episode of the Moms Behind the Magic Podcast. I am your host, Allie. I am here today with Katie and Carla. Good morning, my friends. Good morning. Tell them why we're laughing. Yeah, I'm just really honest. We're constantly working towards bettering our sound quality and in our latest effort, it requires us to synchronize a clap and zoom delays.
[00:00:59] And so we tried this four times and we never got it to appear as though we were all clapping at the same time. And honestly, this is the most DIY podcast that there is in the land of podcasts. And this is just another effort to prove that is true. Facts. But, or either that or Carla really can't clap one time. Why is it me? I mean... I don't know. I don't come from a musical or a dance background. So if there is a problem, it is for sure me. Let's be honest.
[00:01:28] Yeah. No, I don't think anybody is arguing that. Like for sure. We're on board. You clearly aren't arguing it. I don't know what to say right now. Katie is in total agreement. Yeah. I mean, if I ever have, if anything's going wrong, I blame Carla. Like that's, it's probably somewhere along the line. If not her, probably me. From my end, trying to synchronize it, you both were together. It just wasn't with me. So there you go.
[00:01:53] Oh, look at that. I was with you, Katie, but Carla was in her own world. I always am. Oh, my own magical Disney world. Um, so what Katie has. I was going to say, I have, I have mom talk this time that I wanted to sort of put out there. Okay. Let's hear it. So, um, I, I really like history and I like learning things. And so I was listening to this. Okay. This segment's over.
[00:02:20] We're no, no, no. Listen, listen, I was listening to this podcast that was talking about Nellie Bly. And it was really cool, like learning about her and everything. But did you know that they recently discovered like novels that she had written like over a hundred years ago? Like they just discovered them in 2021.
[00:02:38] The podcast host that I was listening to was talking about how it's just so interesting that like a hundred years from now, we're still kind of learning this author's voice. And it made me wonder a hundred years from now, do you think people are still going to be listening to this podcast? It'll still be out there in the ether.
[00:02:59] Can you imagine how different Disney is going to be in like somebody maybe that really loves Disney and wants to know what Disney was like a hundred years ago might discover this and be like, can you believe this? It's crazy. I want to ride that ride. It sounded so cool. Yeah, probably. I actually, I don't know who you're talking about numero uno. Um, clearly I don't read, which is, I don't, it's, it is very clear. A women's, a women's advocate journalist. Awesome. Amazing.
[00:03:27] I oftentimes wonder, are we going to know each other when we're grandparent? Like, obviously Stacy's already a grandma, but are we going to know each other? Like when I have my first grandbaby or? We better. Of course. I have to send, I have to send that child a gift. We better know each other. Like the thoughts of what we're going to experience, like as we go through life and age and we're like, hopefully going to be doing it together. I wouldn't do it with anybody else. Oh, we're still going to be doing this podcast. I love you.
[00:03:55] We're going to be, we're going to be, oh my gosh, I saw these women when we were just at Disney World and shout out to them if they listen, cause they will know who they are. But we were, we had some time to kill. So we did like a little Skyliner resort tour. My kids had never really walked around the art of animation property. So we just took the Skyliner over there. And these two women rode the Skyliner, not in our car, but like along the same path as us all the way back from Epcot. So we saw them multiple times.
[00:04:21] And ultimately they went over to pop century. They were, oh gosh, I don't want to get this wrong. But if I had to guess mid seventies or eighties, like they were, you know, older two women together and they were so cute. They were in velvet blue blazers and pants with like gold.
[00:04:37] Yes. Matching. Yes. Matching. It was, I couldn't get enough. Every time we would get off the Skyliner, I was looking for them. Are they still with us? And I never got close enough to speak to them. I mean, I had to run cause they were maybe, you know, 10 to 15 people in ahead of us.
[00:04:52] But I was so obsessed. And I, I looked at my group and said, that is when I'm older, if that's not me, I've gone somewhere wrong in my life because I really want that to be me. And that can be us. We can wear matching crushed velvet. I don't think it was crushed, just velvet blazers. And it was hot y'all.
[00:05:08] That reminds me of why I love the park that we're going to talk about today so much is because people like that love to go to this park that we're going to talk about. And they love to dress up in the old Hollywood attire and get all dolled up and just go walk around the park. You see them every time. And it's amazing. Yeah. This was my future. We're talking about if that isn't me, then somewhere along the trajectory I've planned right now, I've, I've done something wrong.
[00:05:38] Well, we will help remind you along the way since we will be together. Yeah. You'll buy the suits. Yeah. Can you picture us a couple of decades from now? And we're all on like power scooters going around. Are we still getting on guardians of the galaxy? That's my dream. And I'm going to purposely run into people and have a, I'm going to have a cup holder. On my scooter. A hundred percent. If this doesn't happen somewhere along the way, we did something wrong. No, forget it. This is my 50th birthday. I want to be in scooters.
[00:06:08] You guys are going to be like 40 and I need you to be in a scooter. Would not miss it. Goodness gracious. When I was pregnant with twins, I wasn't like on bed rest or anything, but I wasn't allowed to walk far distances. So even if I was shopping, my doctor wanted me to in a scooter. When you just said I'm going to purposely run into people, it made me remember this little tidbit. I was not purposely running into people, but I could not drive that scooter around target.
[00:06:34] And one day the back of my scooter got attached to one of those end caps and it pulled the whole thing from the wall. And everything came tumbling down. You know, I couldn't clean it up. Suzanne had to because I couldn't, you know, I wasn't allowed off my scooter at that point. So to add to this vision of my 50th. 50th. No, I like 50th. 50th birthday. Listen, wait, I want matching jackets.
[00:07:02] They don't have to be blue velvet, but they need to be bedazzled. Kind of like biker gangs have their like leathered out. Oh yeah. Okay. You know, hell's angels. I'm here for this. Give me something Disney. Well, you know, rhinestoning is literally part of my other career. So exactly. That's why I'm letting you know now. Yeah. To, you know, start prepping. Yeah, we can handle that. It's going to be really fun. So everybody just look for us in the parks. And again, if you don't see us, something went terribly wrong. Eight years from now. So goodness. Okay.
[00:07:31] Today we're talking. I actually have a question. Today we're talking about Hollywood Studios. We're doing our favorite things. We've done this for multiple parks, even different destinations. And it's really fun because I think so many of you M&Ms and listeners new or those that have been with us for a while start to resonate with opinions and start to like advice that multiple of us give, or maybe you're like, oh, I love, you know, I really relate to what Katie says. So I can't wait to hear her favorites because I think we align. And so it's really fun for us to go through our favorites. We can match. This is not a draft.
[00:08:02] So it's not like if I have a favorite, nobody else can have it. We can absolutely share favorites. And I think in some categories we may, although I can see a world where we don't overlap a ton at this park because there are so many good options in each category. I do have a question though. So we're going to be doing favorite things by category for Hollywood studios. We're doing ride show, quick service meal, table service meal, snack, plus two things unique to Hollywood studios.
[00:08:30] We have wild card, just anything about this fabulous park that you want to pull for yourself as like a favorite thing and themed ride. Okay. This is where my question comes in. And do you want me to wait to ask it until we get to that category? And do you want me to ask it now? Or when we get to the category? Ask it now. Ask it now. Okay. Themed ride. Best themed ride is the category. Are we saying our favorite ride with a big theming? Or are we saying, I don't know how to...
[00:08:59] I don't know why you're asking us. You literally came up with these categories and you said thoughts, question mark, and we didn't say anything. So these are questions you should have asked yourself last night when you gave us the list. Last night when I gave you the list and I asked for thoughts and nobody had any to offer up, this was my follow-up question and nobody answered me. So I have to ask it here. You know what? When we get to the category, I'm going to ask the question because I'm going to explain to you why I have the question and it's going to give you better context. And we're going to go from there.
[00:09:27] We're going to jump in now to our favorite things. We're going to start with ride. Favorite ride at Hollywood Studios. We will start with Carla and you have the floor, ma'am. I think my favorite ride might actually surprise you guys. Here's where I'm at in my life. And this goes with so many different things. Like I am seriously in my dopamine rush of like, I need fun and excitement and happiness.
[00:09:56] And it's like, life is really hard. I have teenagers right now. I have to worry about their grades and school and work and all these things. Right? So like, I am really looking for those small instant bursts of joy. And when I was thinking about that, when I think about this ride at Hollywood Studios, did we even mention that we're talking about Hollywood Studios yet? I did. Like, have we even introduced the part? Yes. Yes, I did.
[00:10:25] Say you're not listening to me without saying you're not listening to me. Okay. So my ride is Slinky Dog Dash. And here's why. I know. You're surprised. Remember how hard Stacey went for Barnstormer? Never forget. And it being like the perfect ride for like the first, your first roller coaster. Sure. Yeah. This is the perfect first roller coaster for a child. I agree. Theming is 10 out of 10. Yes.
[00:10:52] You feel like you're a toy and you're walking onto this ride and the coaster pulls up and it's got Slinky, you know, it's Slinky coming around the corner and you get on and everything's just huge around you and you start to go on this ride and you're seeing all these different toys and characters and you go up this first hill. And as a small kid, I would imagine you're like incredibly afraid, but it breaks and it
[00:11:19] goes slow and people are waving at you. And at a point it comes to where the rings are and you go backwards and you go forward. Then you go over these little humps and you put your hands up. And the whole time you have the biggest grin on your face. Like it's so enjoyable and fun. And at the very end of the ride, you see this penguin. I think he's waving at you and then it starts singing. You've got a friend in me. It's wheezy. Yeah, it's wheezy.
[00:11:47] And there's blocks that say fun. And like I get off that ride and I think if you got off this ride and you didn't have fun and you have anything bad to say, you went wrong. Just Disney's not for you. It's a you problem. It's a you problem. Yeah. I love that ride. And I hate that I don't get to ride it unless I strategically rope drop it or have a lightning lane for it, which I oftentimes actually don't.
[00:12:13] So I was about to say we're at the point now where we've gone so many times that to your point of having to be strategic to ride it, we miss it as much as we make it because you do have to be strategic or you're going to be, you know, my family is at the point where waiting over an hour and a half for it is probably not in our plans for the day. So if you don't rope drop or, you know, even if you buy multi-pass, that doesn't mean you're going to get the slinky dog lightning lane. That's also very true. I hate that we miss it often because we're not always strategizing for it.
[00:12:43] We're not always starting in Hollywood studios. But I love this argument so much more than the barnstormer argument. This is a kid coaster. This is core thrill junkie in the making stuff. And it's not there's so many great rides at Hollywood studios. It's not the most thrilling. It's not the most fast, but I would argue that it maybe is the most fun. Yeah, it's super fun. Well, I think what they got so right about Slinky Dog Dash is that my kids love Slinky
[00:13:10] Dog Dash, but it's just as much as you were saying, Carla, kind of fills our hearts as the, you know, 80s and 90s kids that grew up watching Toy Story 2. Yeah. So that big up curve moment, you know, the one I'm talking about where almost sideways and you're all the way up on that curve and you can see Toy Story Land. My memories and, you know, I have memories of sitting next to all of my kids, but I specifically rode next to my youngest daughter the first time she ever rode.
[00:13:39] And I believe Zan was sitting by our son, her twin. And her little giggle going around that curve will stick with me forever. I will never ride that curve and not think of this. Like, I'll never forget it. I know what she was wearing. I know her hair looked. I know what her face looked like. Y'all, when we say take your kids before they'll remember, because she will not remember that, but it's going to stick with me forever. And it's one of my favorite Disney moments.
[00:14:04] And it's part of my love for that ride is that little giggle going around that curve with that little three-year-old, I think she was. You know, it was amazing. So good pick on that. I'm so glad you picked it because it's not what I'm picking. And I was worried that if nobody picked it, we wouldn't get to talk about it. And it is amazing. Okay, Katie. Goodness. Okay. I have thought about this and wrestled with this so much because I am like a diehard Star Wars fan.
[00:14:28] And I really love the original trilogy because that's just where my heart is. But I'm afraid my favorite ride is actually not a Star Wars attraction, which is almost a travesty. You all know I get to go to the parks very often. It's a privilege. Every single time I ride Tower of Terror, my heart like flutters every time. Like, I don't know what to expect. And there is just this unique factor with Tower of Terror because you don't know exactly.
[00:14:58] It's not the exact same ride every single time. So my heart kind of what's going to happen. And I'm like holding hands with my little kids and I'm like, okay, this is the ride where we go up and down. And they're just like, okay, it is what it is. And I'm just like, yeah, it is. Let's go. I love the thrill of Tower of Terror. Well, we're obviously going to talk more, but I'm just going to quickly say me too. This is also my favorite. So we'll just go ahead and share both of the reasons why it's our top favorite. You're right.
[00:15:28] The Star Wars attractions are totally a feat in Hollywood studios. They're amazing. And I'm sure we'll have the opportunity on this episode to talk more about them. But nothing in my mind beats Tower of Terror. I wrestle with this and Guardians between the two being my favorite. And Guardians probably is my all-time favorite at Disney World. But every time I say it, there's a piece of me that's like, oh, don't do that. Tower of Terror. You know, it's your favorite. You know what I mean? And part of it is rooted in the nostalgia of it.
[00:15:54] I think I've talked on the podcast before about it being that first ride that I was tall enough the first time I wanted to ride it. You know, there were so many times that I went to Disney where I just wasn't quite tall enough for that ride yet or that ride. And every time I'd go back, maybe this is the trip and it never was right. And Tower of Terror was that first time I ever remember being like, this is a new ride. I want to ride. I already know I'm not going to be tall enough because I never am. And I was. And my whole family got to ride it together for that first time. And I was, I think I bruised my dad.
[00:16:22] I'm pretty sure I bruised his rib from just like headbanging him so hard because I was so scared. But I loved it. And now my kids love it. They've loved it since they were three. You know, we put them on it early. And just everything from the queue to the attraction itself is perfect. They need to do nothing to this ride. The lobby is telling a story. That pre-show is my favorite pre-show of any. I cannot get enough of that pre-show, that video, that study or library or whatever it is.
[00:16:52] And then you're down in the cellar and you're right. Every time it's a new thrill. And every time I am jittery and excited and all the way throughout, it's not just dropping you. You're getting a whole story and a whole experience. And it's the best. It is. It is the best. It's probably my favorite thrill ride at Hollywood Studios. I even love being outside in the gardens as you're waiting in line, right? And you can see the windows opening and you can hear the screams.
[00:17:19] And you look at the exterior of this hotel and you're like, gosh, I want to stay here. And oftentimes, too, there's characters in the line. I mean, how many times have you walked past Goofy and Max? And, you know, it's just a great ride. It is. And to your point, did you know, did you all watch that show on Disney Plus where they talk about the attractions? And did you know that there was a world where this was supposed to be a hotel you could stay in? It would be so cool.
[00:17:47] It would be up there with staying like a night in the castle. I feel like just as many people. It would probably be a whole different genre of people that would want to stay one night. Yeah. You know what else I love about this ride? I love the airtime. It's probably one of the best airtime rides. And it's not just your airtime. Like, I don't have you guys ever had like a fanny pack or a backpack that you've put on the floor by your feet? And then suddenly you're going up and down and it's like floating in the air. Yeah.
[00:18:14] And I taught my kids to lift their feet just at the right moment. So we truly go airborne. Yeah. It's so just bottom off. Yeah. It's absolutely amazing. And when those elevator doors open and you can see out just so far, and especially at night when things are lit up and you can see Galaxy's Edge and you can see Toy Storyland, it's just such a thrilling moment beyond the drops. You know what I mean? That's just so fun. And so I am all in on Tower of Terror. It is absolutely, without a question, my favorite ride at Hollywood Studios.
[00:18:42] And I think most of the ride at Hollywood Studios are phenomenal. They are. They really are. Nothing at Hollywood Studios is not a headliner. Like, everything's a banger. Yeah. Yeah. But that's, that's untrue. Yeah. That is true. Star Tours is not a headliner. I very well considered choosing Star Tours for my favorite ride. I was going to say. I actually do. I mean, I grew up, that was my favorite ride growing up. I have a very special place in my heart for Star Tours.
[00:19:09] The reality is, is Adult Alley can't ride it anymore. It makes me very sick. And I'm not even somebody that gets sick on rides, really. And that one, I got off it last time saying, that's probably it for me. It's probably it. All set. If you ride Star Tours with a crowd of people that are like diehard Star Wars fans. It is fun. The greatest experience. It is really fun. No, it is really fun. It could be the highlight of your day. Yeah. No, it's really fun. It is a really fun attraction. But just, it comes with a huge warning for anybody that gets motion sick.

[00:21:32] All right. This is a hard one in this park. Katie, we'll start with you. This is the biggest show-heavy park, right? Would you say that that's true over Animal Kingdom? Animal Kingdom has a lot of shows as well, but I think this one is still probably the heaviest. With shows, we have so many to choose from, and so many are going to go unchosen, which is sad. But what is your favorite show at Hollywood Studios? So Becky and I, once upon a time, did spend an entire day just going to every show in Hollywood Studios.
[00:22:01] That's all we did the whole day. It was fantastic. It was a day well spent. Oh, this is really going to tear me up because there's three shows that I hit every time I'm in Hollywood Studios. I love them all so much. Um, I think I'm actually going to say today, though, that my favorite show is the new version of The Little Mermaid Show. Really? It's so hard for me to choose, and I hope I have the opportunity to talk about the other ones that I love too.
[00:22:29] But the new Little Mermaid Show, keep in mind, I didn't get to see the former version of it, but the technology that's happening in that show is just so impressive. You feel so immersed in the story, and there are just so many moments of it that, like, there's magic happening. They have, like, the bubbles coming down from the ceiling. There's all these lights and everything everywhere.
[00:22:53] Like, we feel fully enraptured in the show whenever we see The Little Mermaid, and I'm not going to lie, I cry every single time at the end of the show whenever her dad is like, I'm sorry it took you losing your voice for me to hear you. And I was like, oh my god. Yeah, it's really, really good. I love that show. I've always loved that show. I've loved it since I was little in the original version and the new version. It's such a good pick.
[00:23:22] But again, there are so many amazing shows at Hollywood Studios, and I'm really torn on what I'm picking between my top two, and this one isn't in the running for me, but I love it so much, and that's just truly how good the shows here are. Little Mermaid, whether you're a huge fan of Little Mermaid or not, this show is capturing so much Disney magic, and the Imagineering and all of the thought that went into it to create what it is, and this version of it, it's a must-see. You have to see this show. Carla, you want to go next?
[00:23:49] My favorite show is probably also some of your favorite shows. For the first time in forever, The Frozen Singalong. It is, gosh, I feel like while it's supposed to be made for children, it's secretly made for adults. It's two historians that are retelling the tale of Frozen, and it is everything that is perfect for a show. It's hilarious. It is heartwarming.
[00:24:17] It hits on nostalgia a little bit. Oh, my gosh. Every time a song comes on, everybody in the audience starts singing. Dads, grandpas, grandmas, moms, kids. I've sat next to Katie and her girls belting it out. To let your guard down and just to join in, practically yelling slash singing, that doesn't happen very often, and it could only happen in a place like Disney.
[00:24:45] What I really love about this show is the improv, right? So it's essentially like two comedians that are telling the tale, right? And I don't think any two shows are ever the same. On top of that, there's special moments, like when it snows everywhere in the theater, right? And when Elsa comes out, and I don't know. There's not a bad seat in the house. I have to say that, too. Like, it's air-conditioned.
[00:25:14] You don't have to, like, pre-plan to get the best seat in the house. Like, every seat is good. I love this show. I probably go to this show every time I go to Hollywood Studios. Yeah. A lot of our longtime M&Ms know that Stacey did not know what this show was for a really long time. She thought it was just like a video version of Frozen where people sing along when the songs happen. And if there is anything that's important for our listeners to know, it's that what Stacey discovered, you know, from us talking about it years ago.
[00:25:44] It's been years now that she's known what it was, but originally she didn't. And it is what you just said, Carla. It is only sing along when the songs are happening. But you get to sing with the songs. But the fun of it is the improv. And it is the adult humor under the childhood veil. You know what I mean? Like, there are things that may go over your kiddos' heads, but nothing vulgar or anything like that. Just really enjoyable for all ages. It is hilarious.
[00:26:09] You will probably laugh harder in this show than any venue at Disney World. For sure. If you've been on the new class of Disney cruise ships, the Wish, Treasure, or Destiny, they have storytellers on those ships to a guy and a girl. And they do a lot of the adult shows and shows that are kid-friendly. And it's really similar to that. Two adult storytellers that are very funny at their job, that are telling the tale of Frozen, but there's a whole other element to the show. You're trying to find Elsa.
[00:26:40] And it's just all so well done. Frozen. Whoever's idea that was to take Frozen and turn it into this was Disney brilliance. A hundred percent. Frozen is absolutely one of the ones that I was like, should I say this is my favorite? Because we have had so many moments where I'm like literally laughing out loud. I know you can't even imagine. Anyway, it's just so funny that I'm laughing out loud, but also so many heartfelt moments that I'm like, I never want to forget this moment with my kids.
[00:27:09] Yeah, me too. All right. Well, I'm glad you picked that, Carla, because it was between that and another one. And since we just talked about that, I'm excited. I'll pick the other one for my favorite because it's really a toss up. My favorite show at Hollywood Studios, of course, is going to be Fantasmic, the nighttime spectacular show. I love Fantasmic because I love anything that is going to close your day with such magic. And I love seeing so many character representations.
[00:27:38] You get to see Aladdin, Moana, Elsa from Frozen 2. You get riverboats of princesses and their princes, as well as Lion King animals. It is an entire dream sequence turned nightmare, all from the vantage point of Mickey. And he is so magical that he can appear at the top of a mountain and then the bottom of the mountain. And the magic is so real. It is all put, of course, to the most beautiful soundtrack.
[00:28:08] The music in Fantasmic is maybe the best gore at Disney World. And I cry every single time. I love seeing all the different characters and the little just nuggets of their story that you get. Yes. The part where the villains take over is quite scary at nighttime. And it's a must-see. It is so good. There was a whole phase whenever Tali was littler that every morning she would wake up and she would want to watch Fantasmic as soon as she woke up.
[00:28:36] So she would see it on YouTube every day. Aw. Aw. But I love Fantasmic because you can sit in an amphitheater. You're not holding your kid for an hour or more trying to make sure that you have a good spot or that they can see. There's a lot of practical reasons to love Fantasmic. But goodness gracious, do I love it for the heartfelt moments and the powerful moments. How many times does the show make you feel like, oh, this is powerful? It's just so good. I love Fantasmic as well.
[00:29:06] And I know it's Becky's favorite thing. Fantasmic is a worthy choice. It is her favorite. That amphitheater holds like 10,000 guests with standing room. Did you know that? Crazy. That's wild. I will say you have to pre-plan to see, to get a good spot in the show. And if you don't have a good, it's not going to be as great as you guys are making it seem. I agree. I've been all the way in the back, like the area behind the walkway. And it was terrible. Yeah. Yeah. The view absolutely makes a difference here. You can do a dining package.
[00:29:36] And most of the sit-down restaurants at Hollywood Studios participate in the dining package. And you can get reserved seating for Fantasmic. Or if you're there on a day where there are two shows, a lot of times that second show is really empty compared to the first. So those are two good strategies to use to get a good view. But I do think view matters for this show in a way that maybe it doesn't for some of the other shows. But if you think you're going to end your night early and skip Fantasmic, please reconsider. Yes.
[00:30:02] And I just want to give a hot tip because it doesn't say anywhere in the amphitheater about it. Some other theme parks might say, this is the splash zone that you're sitting in. Yeah. We don't get that warning in Fantasmic. And let me just say, if you're sitting in probably the first eight to ten rows down towards the bottom of the amphitheater, you're probably in the splash zone. Yeah, you're going to get wet. No, you'll be like wet. And it's nighttime. It's no longer sunny. And you'll be cold. I got cold when I sat there.
[00:30:31] We decided to sit there last time. Matthew loves Fantasmic too. And he was like, can we please just sit down in the front? And I was like, oh, you really want to? And it was windy that day too. And he was like, yeah, let's do it. And there was a family that sat beside us. And I was like, have you ever seen the show before? And they were like, no, we're really excited to do it. I was like, listen, are you okay with getting a little wet? Because you're going to get a little wet here. And they were like, okay, we'll be all right with it. But they loved it. I loved watching their family. They had two little boys.
[00:30:58] I loved them watching, like lighting up just as much as my own. Yeah. Yeah. Some honorable mentions we didn't talk about. Of course, the villain show, Beauty and the Beast, which. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Don't talk about them. We got a wild card category. Okay. All right. Fair enough. Let's go on to quick service. I think it's my turn to go first. It is. Oh, and I'm really torn. I'm so torn. Mm. Okay.
[00:31:25] I'm going to give an honorable mention to the Sunset Boulevard. We love eating there. There's a lot of really quick, accessible food. They do the mimosas and waffles in the morning. And there's literally nothing better than a mimosa in the morning on Sunset Boulevard. Maybe that's going to be my wild card. My, I'm going to go, I'm going to go with Docking Bay. And the reason I'm going with it is for a few reasons. Number one, I think the food quality is really high.
[00:31:52] But for quick service, you're, you can have some really healthy options or you can get some really kid-friendly, more junk type options. So it's going to be satisfactory for everyone. If you're utilizing the dining plan, I have utilized it in this way and tried to find the best bang for my buck. These are pretty expensive meals. So you're going to get a really great value for your quick service credit if you use it here. It's a good balance of health and comfort food. They have a great cocktail you can get there.
[00:32:19] That violet thing, whatever it is, it's really good. Or lavender, I don't know. I think in terms of quality, bang for buck and flavor, I'm today going to pick Docking Bay over in Galaxy's Edge. I actually picked this as my top quick service as well. It's no lie that I like big bowls and I cannot lie. And they have those here and they are really tasty. It actually reminds me almost of the quality of food at Satouli Canteen in Animal Kingdom.
[00:32:47] And it has that immersive feeling with it too, that things are kind of intergalactic, right? You're in like this working hanger garage. I'm going to call it a spaceship garage. And the food is just really delicious. They have that chicken yip tip something. It's basically the Katie shaking her head. No. Isn't that what it's called? It is too. What's it called? I don't know what it's called. I will be the outlier here because I don't like Docking Bay 7.
[00:33:17] And you don't like Cutie Bird? No, no, no. Purely because of the chicken. Because in order to make the menu more outer spacey, you can see a visual of the menu. And the chicken is like a perfect cube. And I'm like, I can't get past the cube chicken. I just can't. I don't remember it being a cube. It totally is. That's not the thing that stands out to me either. I love this restaurant. But you're looking at, you know, $17, $20 for the tuna poke. You know what I mean?
[00:33:46] It can be pricey. So it's a great way. I know a lot of our M&Ms are utilizing the dining plan. And if you're worried about coming out ahead or beating the dining plan, I mean, this is a great place to spend a quick service credit. Yeah. And you're going to have a great meal. Oh, the Surly Surlac is the cocktail. Katie's got to tell us what she wants. I know. I'm not moving on. I was going to say the Surly Surlac is the name of that cocktail I was talking about. It's a little sweet. It's kind of on the sweeter side. I have to be really in the mood to drink something that sweet. But it is good. And I do have it there. And hey, dining plan.
[00:34:14] But wait, this is the chicken I was talking about. Hot chicken tip-yip. So it's that like, basically all the parks have some form of this kind of spicy, sweet chicken, right? This is how they describe it. Crispy chicken, not cubed, glazed in a spicy chipotle sauce served with white rice and a relish of sweet corn, shishito peppers, jicama plantains, and cilantro. Where are you getting that at your local theme park? You're not. You're not. Yeah, you're not. This is the best quick service.
[00:34:42] It's so flavorful and so delicious. And yeah, that's almost $17. Do not overlook Docking Bay. But also if you just, you know, the day we ate there, which is I think the last time I ate there, if you believe it or not, was a really cold and rainy day. And I got, I think I got that, Carla, but I also got like a side of mac and cheese because it just felt so comforting on such a cold, rainy day. And they have that too, just to give you an idea that you can really have a range of flavor and options.
[00:35:11] If we go there, my kids usually want the pasta. Okay. Does that bring it to me? It does. Yes. Well, as this will come as no surprise to anyone at all that my favorite quick service location is still Woody's Lunchbox. They did recently expand the seating section over there. It's still not enough. Like there's still so much to be. You're saying you still can't find a seat. Yeah. You're still begging to find a seat. And if you get one of those Babybel cheese tables, like you're, you're practically royalty.
[00:35:40] So if you have one, you have one Hollywood studios. Yes. If you sat at a Babybel cheese table, I want you to tell us in the Facebook group, because you are basically Disney royalty. I got to sit there one time. I have a Babybel cheese table. Yeah. Usually, honestly, I see the best of humanity at Woody's Lunchbox because I will be a mom standing there with three little kids and holding this like an enormous food tray. And someone will be like, man, would you like to sit here? And I'm like, oh, thank you for rescuing me. And it happens almost every time.
[00:36:10] But the food at Woody's Lunchbox is really what has my heart. So almost every time I go, I get the brisket melt, which is so good. My kids always get the grilled cheese with that tomato soup is really good tomato soup. It's not just Campbell's tomato soup. It's like actual, there's something to it there. It has substance. So I like the tomato soup. I like the grilled cheese. The tachos are fantastic. I love the tachos bowl. So good.
[00:36:38] But everything is so good at Woody's Lunchbox that I also really enjoy a turkey sandwich and I've never gotten the turkey sandwich because I'm like, everything else is so good. I can't waste this opportunity to eat it. Yeah. I am with you. Woody's is delicious. I do kind of, in my brain, it's more of a snack stand. And I think it's because I can't escape the heat. Like I need air condition. I need to be able to easily find a place to sit down. These are just things that I think about.
[00:37:06] But dang it if I don't mobile order some tachos and take them to go. Right. And the adult lemonade. They did put up a snack stand recently over in Hollywood, over in that Toy Story land. Yeah. I'm looking at the menu again, just because that was like a refresher. So I like Woody's Lunchbox a lot as well. When I think about it, though, I'm not thinking, oh, this menu, this food, the way I am Docking Bay. I think Docking Bay is much better in terms of flavor quality and all of that. Well, you can be wrong.
[00:37:36] That's fine. The tacho bowl is, though, what I would get there. And like Carla, more of a I'm going to grab this and walk and eat it. And I love that. Yeah. The breakfast tacho bowl. Yes. Yeah. Like go wait in line for Slinky and send somebody over to get tachos for everybody and then bring them back. And that's doing Disney right. Yeah. That's the plan. I agree. Believe it or not, my kids kind of struggle to eat here because they're not big turkey sandwich people.
[00:38:03] I mean, my girls will, but like a couple bites and they don't love grilled cheese. And those are kind of the kid options there. And that's why we don't always go there because they're not super happy there, which is fine. But I would think that something called Woody's Lunchbox would be the most kid friendly of options. And if your kids are sandwich kids, you may actually struggle. I think that you're hard pressed to find kids that don't like grilled cheese. I'm going to say that your kids are unique there. Fair. That could be fair.
[00:38:30] But again, I think if you're not sandwich kids, I mean, my kids just don't really eat grilled cheese, not one of them. And we've gotten like, they have the baby bell cheese and oranges. So again, that's why I like Carla. I look at more of a snack. Can I just say that's why I really like my life right now because I don't have to worry about what my kids want to eat. It's one of the perks of having older kids. Yeah. Yeah. I'm almost there. Katie, you're not. I love you, but you're not. Tally will be five in like two weeks. A week. A week. Five is still in the thick of having to worry about what they're going to eat. I'm sorry to tell you.
[00:38:59] So mine are eight and 11 and my eight year old son is still, I have to worry about what he's going to eat. He scored his first lacrosse goal on Saturday. It was so exciting. We knew it was coming. Like he has been so close and he has been hustling so hard. I was like, I know this is happening on Saturday. And he got it. I wasn't there. I was with our girls. We had to divide and conquer. I was with the girls at their dance event and my wife was with him at lacrosse and she took him to like a nice dinner. And when I was laying with him in bed on Sunday and he was telling me about it, he was like
[00:39:28] the restaurant was a little fancy because it had green things in the pasta. And it was just, he goes, I know they don't have flavor, but I don't prefer them is what he said. He is so picky. He can't just eat anywhere. He can't be flexible like that. But the way that he spoke like that, I'm like, it does not shock me at all that your children have this sort of sense of refinement too. He said something. I can't remember if I remember what to say, cause it was so funny. Oh, not. I said, did you like that restaurant? And I think he said not in particularly, you know, because it was fancy or whatever.
[00:39:57] But anyway, that's why we have to be careful where we're picking and believe it or not, you would think Woody's lunchbox would be the easier between that and docking bay. And I actually think docking bay is easier. Okay. Table service. Carla, you get to go first to this time. And I'm interested to hear which direction we all go on this. Can I just say that table service? I'm not impressed really with the table service at Hollywood Studios. I kind of in the past thought that Magic Kingdom had the worst table service, but I might venture
[00:40:25] to say that Hollywood Studios has the worst table service. I'm anxious to see what you guys say about your favorite restaurants. You know mine because mine has not changed because really there hasn't been anything new other than the one in Toy Story. But Hollywood Brown Derby, like I said, I don't have little kids. I don't have to worry about, you know, what they're going to eat if they're going to find something on the menu. So when I'm going to a restaurant, if I'm going to take the time to sit down at Disney, I need a good atmosphere.
[00:40:54] I need good food and I need good drinks. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I don't want to sit inside at Hollywood Brown Derby. There is an outside lounge that has umbrellas. It has shade. It has music. It has ambiance. It has little Elsas and little Darth Vaders walking by. It has happy families. It has crybabies. It has everything Disney, right?
[00:41:20] And on top of that, if you're sitting there with a chill glass of Sauvignon Blanc, it's hot outside. You're in the shade and you're eating their famous Cobb salad, which is the perfect, like, I don't know if you guys like Cobb salad. You either love it or hate it. I love Cobb salad. Okay. Love. It is the perfect chop to the turkey, the bacon, the egg, the blue cheese. The dressing is fresh. They mix it at the table. Like it's a whole thing.
[00:41:45] And to me, this is probably one of the best meals and best atmospheres in all of Disney parks. And I know you guys dog it because you went there once and had crappy chicken soup. Don't get the crappy chicken soup. Don't sit inside. No, yeah. Sit outside. It's not a reservation. It's first come, first serve. There's this bar. For out. For outside. There's this bar on the right side. There's a little walkway that you enter and somebody just takes your name down or seats you right away. It is, it's a good time.
[00:42:15] I love it. I agree with everything you just said. The problem and the reason I struggle with Hollywood Brown Derby is no longer the soup. Okay. We, I had the bad soup and that was on me and I will own it. But the reason I struggle with it is because the inside really does kind of suck. I'm with you. I want a good vibe atmosphere view. And you are exactly right. The outside is top tier, but the inside is bottom tier. I understand that it's a replica. I understand that it's trying to be, you know, I understand that it can't be different
[00:42:43] than it is because it's literally trying to be the Hollywood Brown Derby from California, right? Like where Lucille Ball eats and I love Lucy on their trip to California. Like it's supposed to be like that, right? I get it. I just don't want that when I'm at a theme park with my family and it's a two credit meal and I'm not sure that it's worth that. So I struggle on those levels with it. Although I agree with you that sitting outside is a different experience and you have to really be, you have to really, like you did, Carla, explain the difference and understand the difference,
[00:43:13] I think. Yeah. And also know what to order. Like if you're just looking for a light, easy lunch, you know, go here, but don't order the steak or the, you know, escargot. Right. Get a salad and, you know, go on with your day. The Cobb salad for sure. For sure. It's listen, it's an upscale experience at a Disney theme park. Maybe probably one of the most upscale experiences you're going to have at one of the theme parks. Yeah.
[00:43:43] But I, I just don't think I want that two credit meal and that's personal preference, you know? Yeah. If I'm sending two credits, I want to be at Storybook Dining or I want to be at the Boathouse out on that patio. You know, that's the two credit. For sure. I want. I have not eaten at Hollywood Brown Derby and in part because I don't like eggs. So I don't think I would like Cobb salad, but, um, you can take the eggs off. Have the eggs. I think that if I went with Carla, she might be able to convert me though. So maybe. I would like to be there for that. I would like to be there.
[00:44:13] We all order the Cobb salad, please. Convert you all. Let's go. Yeah. That'd be fun. All right, Katie, I think it's you. Okay. So, um, my favorite table service in Hollywood studios is 50s primetime cafe. I think it's pretty well known. I like comfort food. I like spoofy restaurants. Katie's in her glory whenever I'm in a restaurant like that. Right. And so that is what 50s primetime is. You're going to come sit down. It has this really cool retro theming.
[00:44:42] Some tables have those tiny TVs that you would have had in the 50s. All of the waiters and waitresses are your cousins and they're going to remind you of your manners. They're going to tell you not to put your elbows on the table. They're going to tell you to put down your devices, your radio, your walkie talkie, however it is that they phrase it whenever you're on your phone. But I have seen some incredibly hilarious moments here. Like, um, one time I was sitting next to a table where they were celebrating a birthday
[00:45:10] and the server actually came over and fed the birthday cake to the birthday girl. It was truly hilarious. I love it because it has this entertainment factor, but also the food is what I want in a meal. I want to have a meal that I feel like is worth the bang for my buck. And I love comfort food. Matt usually likes the fried chicken here. They have meatloaf. It's just good. It's just good eats. Yeah.
[00:45:37] I'm going to just interject and say, I also am going with 50s primetime as my favorite. I was struggling with this because I couldn't pick any restaurant based on food. And I thought that really kind of sucks for a category about food. And that's really how I feel about Hollywood studios. There wasn't like this shining, oh, the food is so amazing, which is sad when Hollywood Brown Derby is a two credit meal in the mix. So I went with 50s primetime for the reasons you're saying, the theming, the immersive experience. This is nostalgic for me. It's where I grew up eating.
[00:46:07] The milkshakes are so fun. I honestly think the food is just okay. I don't even think the food is that good. I think the food is- The milkshakes are good. The food is maybe even bad. No, I don't think the food is bad. I actually- And bad, you guys. And the atmosphere is terrible. No. I know. You have to be willing to embrace the kitsch. That's what it is. I agree. Right. Listen, it's Grandma's Crusty Kitchen. That's what it should be named. Here's the thing.
[00:46:33] I am with you that the atmosphere I prefer is a patio any day of the week with good weather and a cocktail. For sure. The music that's playing in that animator courtyard area, I think that's what it's called, right where you're sitting when you're outside at Brown Derby is the type of music I want to listen to. Like, that is top tier atmosphere. That is not what you're getting at 50s primetime. But I am all in on a theme. And I do think that the kitschiness that Katie was saying is quite fun. Again, I think the food is almost, you could just say bad. I don't think it's very good.
[00:47:02] The spaghetti is watery. Can I just say this? But it's still my favorite because I'm not- Okay. It's diner food at best. Yeah, I agree. There's a blue- Listen. But hold on. Sometimes diners are- There's a blue plate special. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Sometimes diners are delicious. Yes, I agree. Blue plate special, which is normally, like, should be like $6 between the hours of like 4 and 4.30. Yeah, yeah. It's $32. It's $32. It's crazy. For the blue plate special. Yeah. In grandma's crusty kitchen.
[00:47:32] And they're yelling at you to eat your peas. I don't want that in my dining experience. You guys need to want more. Audience, please want more than this. No, hold on. Go to the boardwalk. Okay, listen. Go to the boardwalk for dinner and then come back. I agree. Oh my goodness. I don't disagree. Because Cake Bake Shop is my favorite restaurant on property. I said it. That's what I've decided. You said it. Better than Trattoria? Yeah. Cake Bake is my favorite restaurant on property. I'm making it a declaration. I might agree that it's better than Trattoria.
[00:48:00] Cake Bake Shop is on the boardwalk. And if you leave the park, you're probably going to have a better experience than anything. It is my- I am making the declaration. I'm saying it definitively. It's my favorite restaurant at Disney. I love it. We can do a whole episode about it later. Now nobody will ever get a reservation there again. They already can. You already can't. You guys should see Katie's eyes. They're going like left to right, left to right, left to right. Like where did we go in this episode? How did we get here? Yeah, I don't know how we got here. But I did want to add, I also love the Cake Bake. And you know what came in the mail for me yesterday? What? This is going to sound so stupid.
[00:48:30] I do like whenever we can get dressed up all fancy. And I'm hoping to have a Cake Bake reservation for Mother's Day. And I bought lace gloves. Okay. Like they wear in like Bridgerton for me and the girls to like get dressed up fancy and go to Cake Bake. Love it. Do it. We just did Easter breakfast at Cake Bake Shop. And that's when it just solidified it for me because I had not had breakfast there yet. I have had lunch and dinner and just dessert. Now I've rounded it all out. And I've also had breakfast there.
[00:48:59] And we also got dressed up. We Disney bounded Cinderella. And it was the most magical. So anyway, back into the park that we're actually talking about. Carla said you need to want more. And I'm just here to say I'm not out of touch. I don't need to want more. I don't want this for the food. I want it for the fun. Mike, it is fun. It is the fun. It's the fun. You go into the retro atmosphere. And again, Hollywood Studios to me is all about a theme. And theming is heavy in Hollywood Studios. The attractions, the shows, the walkways, the lands.
[00:49:29] Theming is the through line. And for any M&Ms listening today, the magic word will be theme. And I think 50s primetime knocks it out of the park for theme. If you're looking for an actual theme at a sit-down restaurant at Hollywood Studios. Don't say sci-fi. Do not say sci-fi. You're going to go to sci-fi. Because there's no better theming and atmosphere. Honestly, it's weird. No. And the movies are weird. But being in the dark with the stars over you. I am just beside myself. In the old cars.
[00:49:58] That is a theme. That's a theme. It is a theme. Tell me it's not a theme. Okay. It is a theme. City lights and the cityscape around you. It is a theme. I'm not saying it's a good restaurant. But it's still the okayest. It's probably. What? The theme is okayest? The restaurant itself. Yeah, the restaurant. Like you're sitting in an old car. Like there's nothing more Hollywood than the theme in that restaurant. What are we arguing right now? This is a podcast with three people and I can hardly get a word in. Go ahead.
[00:50:28] No, I was just going to say like 50s primetime for the reasons I said. But also you can get the Fantasmic dining plan there, which adds to its value in my opinion too. Like you can't do that at Roundup Radio, the barbecue place. You can do it at Sci-Fi and Brown Derby though. You can. Yeah. My thing with Sci-Fi is the table setup. If you have little kids, how the heck are you eating there? No. Listen, I'm not saying to get a reservation at Sci-Fi. What is the argument? I'm just saying that theming is great. But what are you saying? I don't know. Are we are?
[00:50:57] Is the argument here that Sci-Fi is theming? Because you guys were talking about how awesome the theming was being in your grandma's kitchen at primetime and how fun. I think it is. In these dingy little rooms with dingy little tables. No. It is really fun. Like if I want theming, I'm going to go sit in a drive-thru. No, you're not. You are never going to sit there. No, you're not. I'll go to Sci-Fi before I go to primetime again. I call BS.
[00:51:21] Most of Disney magic is in the cast members and the cast members at 50s primetime add to the magic of 50s primetime. I agree. They're playing their part. We had a hard stop in like 30 minutes. So we better move on. All right. Again, just to drive this one home. I think the food is not good. I think the experience is very fun. And that's why I went with it. They give you a sticker if you finish your plate. Heck yeah. Oh, great. We get a sticker for our $32 blue plate special in grandma's crusty kitchen.
[00:51:50] It's good food. That restaurant is contributing to the traumas of you must finish your plate from the 80s night. All right. Let's move on. I'm happy to. All right. Let's move to snack. And I don't even know who gets it. I think it's Katie gets to go first on snack. There's a lot of good snacks here. I'm happy to go first. And this is no surprise at all either. I was just going to say. So I'm, yeah, I'm on the record loving a Woody's lunchbox tart. And you know, one of our M&Ms was so kind and posted in our Facebook group a picture of her getting a lunchbox tart.
[00:52:20] And that was really cool. Thank you guys for doing that. I love the Woody's lunchbox tarts. The raspberry one is there year round and it's delicious. And then they have seasonal ones that pop in. I don't always love the seasonal ones, but I am always down for our raspberry lunchbox tart. I feel I should probably also give an honorable mention to, I have discovered Baseline Taphouse and it's not a snack, but I will go out of my way for the strawberry hibiscus soda that's on draft. Oh, I love it. Call that a snack.
[00:52:50] Baseline Taphouse is great. It's a great spot. Good atmosphere. I love a brewery. It's great. Speaking of Baseline, that's where my favorite snack is. Uh-huh. By the way, I watched a video the other day. All the top things that people are lying about liking at Disney. Mickey Pretzel. Two of the things have to do with my choice. Number one on the list was Mickey Pretzels. I knew it. Yeah. And second on the list was Hollywood Studios, which I don't know why this park has such a bad rap. Yeah, what? But it kind of does.
[00:53:19] It's like the new Epcot in that people will skip Hollywood Studios. And now everybody's going to Epcot. So hopefully we can change everybody's mind. Don't go there for the table service restaurants. No. But my favorite snack at Hollywood Studios, and there's quite a few at Hollywood Studios, but if I had to choose, my favorite would be the pretzel at Baseline. It comes with beer cheese. Do you consider that a snack? Seriously. Is this considered a snack? Because if it- It's not a meal. It's huge. It's not a dessert. It's not a cocktail. Well, I know.
[00:53:48] You have to sit down. Stop it. You don't have to sit down. Stop it. You don't have to sit down. If you get to sit down, you're lucky in your royalty because you found a table in the shade outside. I'm not trying to take your- With the atmosphere. You are. I'm not trying to take your pick away. No, it's making me rethink my pick because of some of the things at Baseline that I love. I'm on one now. Yeah. This pretzel, top two. I don't know if I like this pretzel more or the pretzel in Pandora at Animal Kingdom.
[00:54:16] I think they're equally delicious and warm and the cheese served with them is amazing. I just recently had one and I loved it as much as I used to love it. It's a great snack. It's good stuff. Yeah. I can't disagree. The only pretzel I've had that I like more is at Disneyland. They have that garlic pretzel twist thing over by Small World at Disneyland Park and it is literally, you cannot talk to anybody for an hour after you eat it. Garlicky, but that's my favorite pretzel.
[00:54:45] And then this one is quite close. And now that's why it's making me rethink this pretzel's legit. I love it. And they have a charcuterie board. What's your choice? Well, I don't know. I was between so many things because- We can talk about some honorable mentions, can't we? Yeah. Well, this is not as good as the pretzel. It's just not, but I really like it. And I've talked about it before. It's that Wookiee cookie. It's like a homemade, big old oatmeal cookie cream pie thing with the piece of Wookiee chocolate across the top. It's a bandolier. Uh-huh.
[00:55:15] And I think I am going to pick that because it is so unique to this park. It's on brand for being the Star Wars park. And it's quite tasty. I think it was Becky said she had never had it until I talked about it on one of our episodes. And she tried it when she was there with her girls, I think, and loved it. That thing is really good. And it's one of those things you can only get here. It's huge and it is on brand for the park. And so I think I am going to go with Wookiee cookie, but this is a good snacking park because there's that, there's the Nom Nom, the Jack Jack Nom Nom cookie, that big warm chocolate chip that people love. That one's good.
[00:55:45] They have spring rolls now. Spring rolls. There's tachos, which we mentioned. Ronto roasters. Ronto wraps. Yeah, I had Ronto wrap on my list. Oh, the blue milk. Ooh. No. Well, we're not going to talk about that. That's cute though. Oh, come on. Also the carrot cake whoopie pie at Charlie Cafe. It's the carrot cake cookie. Yeah, yeah. This place is great for snacks. Like it's great for cookies. And I don't know the new snack stand in Toy Story Land has spring rolls.
[00:56:14] Stacey said she liked them better, I think. Yeah, she did. Yeah, she did. Here's what I want you to know about the cookies specifically in Hollywood Studios. Whenever we're talking about a cookie, we're not talking about just a cookie. This is a cookie that like your family of four can share and be happy. And they're all so tasty. One of the things I like about that Jack Num Num cookie is because it is warm and it's kind of like undercooked on the inside towards the middle. And it's the best. Yeah, it's thick. Yeah, it's good.
[00:56:43] Well, the Wookiee cookie is what I'm going with because I think it's just so unique to this park. And I really think people don't know about it. And they don't. My family of five can share it. And it's really just a good little sweet. But gosh, that pretzel. Yeah, it's really good. Did you tell everybody where it was located? Oh, it's at Backlot. Or is that the name of it? Backlot Express. Backlot Express, yeah. Over there on the side of the park. Really good stuff, you guys. Character interaction is next. My favorite character interaction across any park
[00:57:12] is Mike and Sully. Mike and Sully are so cool and so well done and very impressive. Sully is huge. And it is tied to core memory stuff for me because my twins were dressed as Mike and Sully and my oldest was dressed as Boo the day we met them. And the photos that we have are just rooted in such amazing memories. And Sully is so impressive. He is so furry and big. And he's the best. He's like a real live giant stuffy. So I'm going with Mike and Sully.
[00:57:42] That's a good pick. Carla, who's your favorite character? I respect your choice, Allie. I actually do have favorite characters at this park. And it's basically any character related to Star Wars. And that comes from core memories for me when my cute little Liam used to dress up as a stormtrooper. Somehow, because I feel like you can't wear a mask into the park, but it was during COVID days. So everybody was wearing a mask,
[00:58:10] but they actually allowed him to wear his full stormtrooper mask into the park. And I'll never forget the time that he was standing there in his little outfit. He was probably like three feet tall or something. And the stormtroopers came over to him and they like posed with him and they like drew their guns. He didn't have a gun, but he like just got it. And he like has this little fake, like he does the little fake drawing of his gun and they're all standing there. So cute. But also like meeting Darth Vader.
[00:58:38] So Darth Vader has moved, right? Because they got rid of that whole, what was it called? The Launching? I want to say it's the Launching Pad, but that's at Magic Kingdom. It was like the Launching Pad. Star Wars Launch Bay. Yeah, Launch Bay. Launch Bay. Okay. So now Darth Vader, you can meet him over by Star Tours. So there is a reason to go to Star Tours after all. And it's to meet Darth Vader. But also just, I just love how, so you go over to Galaxy's Edge and the stormtroopers are, you know, trolling along, but not only,
[00:59:08] they're like not only physically trolling, like they're actually like trolling everybody that's in there, you know, talking about cell phones and calling you citizens and just kind of making fun of everybody. They're sarcastic and hilarious. Maybe that's my future dream job at Disney. Also, Chewbacca walks around. I don't know, can you meet him? Like you used to be able to? Okay. Is that in Star Tours 2? He's back by the Millennium Falcon, like literally against the back wall.
[00:59:37] So a lot of people might miss his meet and greet if you're not looking for it. That makes sense. Where the old entrance was to the hotel that didn't work out. The big black hole of, yeah. My second, my honorable mention would be Kylo. You know, I just like have a thing for Kylo. I love him so much. And his interaction when he's over by his ship, I could just stand there all day, watch him. Oh my gosh. I love him. Seriously though, I have a picture of my family meeting Darth Vader and like the look on my face
[01:00:05] in London's face is just complete awe and also fear because he is considerably larger than most characters. He's foreboding. It's super intimidating. Yeah. Chewbacca is really, really large too. Gosh, I could just as easily side with you, Carla, on all of the Star Wars characters because we love meeting them and they're incredible. My kids love meeting Mando and Baby Yoda Grogu. So I think those are good choices, but you know what I did this year for my birthday?
[01:00:34] We went to Hollywood Studios and Pinocchio has been meeting out in that courtyard. And whenever we were walking up, Jiminy Cricket was there. I was like, okay guys, we're going to go meet Jiminy Cricket. Okay. So my kids are getting all their little autograph books out and everything. And we waited in a line. We met Jiminy and he was great. I love Jiminy Cricket too. Um, but I talked to the cast member that was escorting Jiminy. And I was like, uh, any chance you could tell me
[01:01:03] if Pinocchio is going to be coming out soon? And he was like, Pinocchio is going to be here in 10 minutes. And I was like, great. So we got our pictures with Jiminy. We were like the last family to get pictures with Jiminy. And I got right back in line so we could get pictures with Pinocchio. And that was fantastic. I love Pinocchio. You all know. So I, I have to pick Pinocchio for my favorite character greeting in Hollywood studios. Don't, don't pass it up. And keep showing us your pictures when you see Pinocchio
[01:01:32] because you know how much Katie loves him. It's true. Every time you guys post pictures with Pinocchio, I melt. It's the greatest thing. It is really sweet. It's amazing. You guys are M&Ms. You guys are all so great. You go to the group and share things that, you know, mean a lot to us. And I just love it. Okay. Going on to a wild card slash unique thing about Hollywood studios that you love. And is it Carla first? It's your turn, boo. Yeah. I think it's Katie's turn. I went, I took your turn. So Katie, you go first on this wild card.
[01:02:02] Your favorite, favorite Hollywood studios thing that you just love about it. There's so much to love in Hollywood studios. And I had such a hard time narrowing down things in the show category that I'm going to give my wild card option to the, the new villains show. So we love the villains show and hot tip. There are several different endings. So you should see the show multiple times so you can see different endings. I'll be honest with you. I think most of the time
[01:02:30] Maleficent usually wins the end of the show and she gets to do the finale. But the other options are Captain Hook and Cruella. And I'm just saying every time that I have cheered for one of the alternate options, it has gotten chosen for the ending. So maybe that speaks to how boisterous I am. Say that surprises no one. Yeah. That tracks. I love that show so much. I love the visual effects. I love the technology. I love how Captain Hook comes out and they have these cannons
[01:03:00] that come out and they like shoot smoke rings. Like there's so many cool things. Like Cruella changes her outfit like a dozen times during the show. It's, it's really cool. There's like a song that comes on at the end. It's like a pop rendition of the theme song and I have like bought it on iTunes because my kids love it so much and we listen to it every morning on the way to school. It also tracks. Mm-hmm. It is a great show. Whenever we, whenever we were all there together in January, Carla, I think you hadn't seen it yet and I was like, Carla, who do you want to win?
[01:03:30] Who do you want to win? Captain Hook. Yep. And that's who won. Yep. Yeah. I like it. Carla, you go next. This is hard. I'm going to just say three of them really quickly. I'm going to say the vibes on Sunset Boulevard. Oh yeah, that's mine. Mine was just Sunset Boulevard. I'm going to say the experiences in Galaxy's Edge being building a lightsaber or building a droid. If you have a Star Wars fan, these are the ultimate thing that you could do. Mm-hmm. Right? Mm-hmm.
[01:03:59] And I'm also going to say the shopping at Hollywood Studios. There is something for everyone. There is Marvel. There is Star Wars. There is the brand new bubble bar earrings or the dresses. Like just, it's one of the best, my favorite parks for shopping because it is truly unique to that park. Yeah, it really is. And it's not just your normal Disney shopping. It is, like I said, something for everyone.
[01:04:29] Like if you have the little dude in your family that struggled to find something really cool, you're likely going to find it at this park. Mm-hmm. I love that you just said this. I'm going to let you keep talking about it, but I just want to chime in and say this was my pick as well. Which one? Sunset Boulevard. And the reasons I was going to say is because those shops, all of the shopping at Hollywood Studios is great, but the shops specifically along Sunset Boulevard are the ones where we shop the most and where we end up purchasing the most. We always leave with bags from the shops at Hollywood Studios. They just, for whatever reason,
[01:04:58] are really unique and they have that new brand that everybody really loves. My name, it's blanking. Stony Clover? Yeah. Stony Clover. Yeah, they have a Stony Clover which people love. Kendra Scott, Disney, only at Disney. Pandora. They have all the watches, the Citizen watches. Yeah. Mm-hmm. But then also just the clothing line that they carry, like the Disney brand merch. And that store, what is that store called? Legends or something? I want to say it's Legends. Something. It's where it looks like it's the
[01:05:27] movie theater that has the marquee sign as one entrance to it. So that's on one side of Sunset Boulevard and then the other side you can get good snacks and then all-day drinks. So they serve mimosas all day long down there. Good ice cream. You can sit on a bench and just enjoy the music, the views. That's where Tower of Terror is. So just Sunset Boulevard in general is probably my favorite place to be in Disney World. Honestly, once I turn onto Sunset Boulevard I could stay there all day. I really think it might, I mean I would have to think before I was like
[01:05:57] really declaring that but off the top of my head right now, yeah, that's probably my favorite place in Disney World. We should have a business meeting there. I'm surprised we haven't. I get distracted easily there. Not gonna lie. It's so great though and that's my pick. So yeah. All right. Very last category and Carla, I think you get to go first. This is where I was confused because my favorite ride with theming is different than like the best ride theming so I think we should just go with it. Yeah, I see what you mean. You see what I'm saying? Well, to me, this is going to be the best themed,
[01:06:26] most immersive ride and to me that's... Are we all gonna have the same answer? Well. Nope. Because they're all kind of great, like right, Slinky Dog Dash, great theming. Like all of them are great. you mentioned great theming. Mine being the most immersive experience is gonna be Rise of the Resistance. Of course. But also now that I'm thinking about it, Millennium Falcon, Smuggler's Run. Are you kidding me? That's my pick. Have you ever been on Smuggler's Run? Well, okay. I love Smuggler's Run but I always get a little bit nervous
[01:06:56] that I'm gonna be on with like the crazy Star Wars fans and I get chosen as a driver and London gets chosen as a driver and I don't know which way is up. I don't know which way is down. I'm just going with the flow and we're laughing and giggling and having the best time because we have no idea how to drive this thing. But the poor Star Wars guys in the back dressed as like Darth Vader and somebody, I don't know, is just dying. that doesn't know on Smuggler's Run,
[01:07:26] yeah, there's like four or six roles that you can play. Six. And you're assigned a role and you don't get to and you're either going to fly or you're going to be a shooter or you're going to be an engineer. Engineer, yeah. But also the queue in this ride is a queue like Smuggler's Run. Now I'm talking about Smuggler's Run. Okay, I'm not talking about Riding. Wait, Carlo, what's your pick? Rise of the Resistance is my pick and you guys can talk about that because I feel like that's on your list but I'm going to go back to Smuggler's Run for a minute because now that I'm thinking about it because all these rides here have just phenomenal theming
[01:07:55] and the line queue at Smuggler's Run where you're like in the garage and there's like a full-size spaceship like, right? Yeah. It's so, I don't know what it's called. I never will. Your waiting area, you get to go to the table. Yeah, it's really neat. I mean, it's unbelievable. You get to go in the Falcon. I love Smuggler's Run. My kids are always the pilots and so we are that family that's just like crashing into everything. They're getting better as they get older. I'm so impressed whenever we get two capsules of whatever the heck it is that you're supposed to be stealing. Honestly,
[01:08:25] so many times that I've ridden that and we've just blacked out from laughing. I don't even know what the objective of this ride is. Like, we're just laughing so hard that I black out and I'm like, that was a great time. No idea what we were doing. Yeah. No idea what we were supposed to do. I'm almost always a gunner or an engineer because my kids are the pilots but if I could have my way, I would be the pilot that sits on the right side because you get to pull down the lever where you launch it into hyperspace. Oh my gosh, are you kidding me? My Star Wars heart is exploding.
[01:08:56] Katie, you're the parent. You can have it your way. You just have to say mom and dad are driving this time. Make your dreams come true. No, you guys, my seven-year-old, actually the twins, my seven-year-old twins at the time flying while my wife and I tried to shoot and we couldn't get close to any target. I mean, we were scream laughing. It's hysterical. It is so fun. Yes. I'm still in that phase where like, so Emma is seven now, my middle one, so they can technically sit wherever they want
[01:09:25] but Tally has to be seated in front of us because she's still under seven. So that's why I'm usually not a pilot but every once in a while I'm like, can I please be the pilot this time? The theming couldn't be better. Like it's, you're inside the Millennium Falcon and for a Star Wars lover that's kind of like the best you can get. So that's my, well, that's not her, that's not your pick, right? Isn't Smugglers Run your pick? No. Carla picked mine and I'm explaining hers. That's how this goes. Wait, so Carla, I'm sorry. Wait,
[01:09:55] so Carla, is your pick Smugglers Run or Rise? No, it is Rise but then I started, listen, there's so many. Okay, there's just so many but these two have to be talked about obviously. You already talked about Terror and the theming there which is Tower of Terror. Yeah, I agree. But I agree. Well, my pick for the record is Rise of the Resistance. Yeah, it's great. I just want Katie to describe it with actual accuracy because we, we don't know what we're talking about, Allie, when it comes to actual like who's running the ship and stuff. For Smugglers Run or? For Rise of the Resistance.
[01:10:24] It's too good to mess it up and call things spaceships like I do. I'm just asking for Katie's expertise. I just don't even know if I should be offended or go ahead, Katie. I have been a diehard Star Wars fan longer I would probably say than Allie. You're just like Star Wars for Kylo, okay? It doesn't count. That's right. And he's there. He's there. So I'm paying attention. I'm part of the Star Wars crowd that I love the original trilogy and I don't love the new stuff so Allie might actually be the better person to talk about this but whenever Rise of the Resistance was a brand new ride
[01:10:53] and even still it was immediately like the crowning jewel of the Disney parks for the immersion factor, right? Do you remember when it was virtual queue? It was like the first virtual queue but you had to be at Hollywood Studios to get in the queue so people were arriving at 5 a.m. and we would all bunch up outside. It was nuts. And whenever it had first become standby queue the wait the wait was like 4 hours. It was crazy. Like people love Rise of the Resistance but the queue is really good. You're going to be exploring
[01:11:23] that story where you have Rey and Kylo Ren and I don't know it's just it's a really good ride. My kids like to go to space jail. They say, Mommy, can we go to space jail? And that's what we do. Yeah, it's the reason it's the best for theming is because it is the first ride of its kind. You know, you actually do sit down and buckle into a ride vehicle at some point and that portion of the ride might be 5 minutes long. Pretty long and very amazing. But prior to that there is a walkthrough element of this ride that goes through
[01:11:53] multiple chambers and rooms and indoors and outdoors. Multiple pre-shows. If you consider all of that part of the attraction this attraction is like a half an hour long. And it is it's unmatched. There's nothing like it. When you first get to see Rey and she's a hologram. Is that right? Yes, hologram. Okay. That's unbelievable. And then you go into the ship and then the same doors open but you're no longer where you were. You've been transported. The way that they do that trick I'm still like how? How do they do it?
[01:12:22] I don't know how they do it. And honestly if you do know please don't tell me. I don't want that magic ruined. I don't know how they do it and I would prefer leave it that way. But you do fly away and you're somewhere else and when those doors open you could not have anything else that I've talked about and when those doors open it's the top theming of any attraction anywhere. I just got chills. Jaw dropping. You're in a room with like dozens of stormtroopers. Oh my god. And there's a big giant I don't know the name of the aircraft.
[01:12:51] You're really letting me down. I thought you were gonna be the one for this time and it turns out it is Allie. There's a first order a ship of the first order and it's huge and scary and then when you enter you've been kidnapped at that point and so the cast members are now playing along and the remainder of the queue they're not being very nice to you and you are prisoners at this point and that's kind of when you get into your ride vehicle and they're about to interview you and yes and you're about and you need to escape at this point so the theming
[01:13:21] could not be better. It's absolutely jaw dropping from start to finish. You get off this ride you come around that last corner where you like your ride vehicle exits and you're getting ready to get off and you're literally clapping. Yes you're like this is the highlight of the day. Yeah. Oh yeah. This is where you're happy to be alive. It has walking elements visual elements ride like thrill invisible track elements like Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway and Remy's Ratatouille Adventure. Cast members
[01:13:49] are perfection. Cast member interaction it has drop elements it has virtual elements it's an everything ride. It's an everything ride. It's really good. Yeah. It's phenomenal and as far as theming goes you literally cannot beat it. Whether you like Star Wars or not do not miss it but as we said so many times on this show watch a movie watch two movies get a grasp of what's happening so that you can really immerse yourself in this perfection of a ride.
[01:14:19] You'll enjoy it more if you have if you have some sort of frame of reference. Like as a girl mom a lot of people tend to think that oh this is not something that my three little girls would enjoy. My kids have never seen a Star Wars movie and they love the Star Wars section of Hollywood Studios. Yeah. My eight year old daughter loves the new trilogy. She like loves Rey and Kylo and she watches it. We watch it together. She loves it. One time we were walking out of Smuggler's Run and there's like multiple exit paths coming out of Smuggler's Run and Rey was just standing there greeting people.
[01:14:48] It was the coolest thing. It is. And then you can buy resistance gear at the end of it. It's really cool. Okay. [01:17:49] All right. We are going to jump into our lightning lane and then I'll do a little review of our favorite things today. So we will go Katie and Carla. Are y'all ready? All right. What is the number one lightning lane priority at Hollywood Studios? Slinky Dog Dash. Has to be Slinky Dog Dash. I was going to say Slinky Dog. Slinky Dog is not only number one at Hollywood Studios, it is number one at Disney World. It is the number one that you will miss out on. What is your favorite part of Galaxy's Edge? It's a tough one. I love Smuggler's Run
[01:18:18] and I love that area there by the Millennium Falcon and I want to give a shout out to Ogas Cantina too. That's just a really cool experience. Lightning lane. I mean, I'm saying that area. I'm saying the area by Millennium Falcon. Okay. Carla? What was the question? Favorite part of Galaxy's Edge? Oh gosh. Rise of the Resistance. That's hard. I'm going to say Ogas because the Stormtroopers will come in and it's just such a fun vibe and environment. It's a great time to sit, relax. And the Fuzzy Tauntaun is really unique.
[01:18:49] Rope Drop or Close the Park for Hollywood Studios? You got to close the park so you can do Fantasmic. I would say Close the Park here. Close the Park but you got to use Lightning Lanes or you're going to miss Rise and Slinky. What is the best role on Smuggler's Run? I already said you have to be the pilot but more importantly you have to be the pilot that sits on the front right so that you can pull down the lever. Yeah. I think pilot's pilot's the right answer here. I think the right answer is Gunner with your young child piloting.
[01:19:18] You'll have the most fun you've ever had in your life. Which ride are you skipping if you're short on time at Hollywood Studios? Oh. It's tough because they're all good. It pains me to say it but I think I'm skipping Alien Swirling Saucers but I just don't want to wait for that one. If you're short on time that's like a 10-15 minute wait ever. No. No. That one is always like 30 to 40 minutes and it's a hard cue to wait in with little kids. Oh. Yeah. No. I would never wait that.
[01:19:48] Gosh. Probably Slinky Dog. You're going to skip Slinky Dog? If you're short on time and you didn't pre-plan. If you're short on time I mean you're not going to be able to ride it. Yeah. All right. All right. It's going to be the longest cue that are a rise. For frame of reference right now as we're recording in Hollywood Studios every single attraction has a 30 to 60 minute wait. Yeah. Every single one with the exception of Star Tours which has a 5 minute wait. Yeah. Everything else is 30 to 60 minutes.
[01:20:18] And it's 11 o'clock on a Wednesday. Yeah. The wait for that is 30 and the wait for Slinky is 50. So I'm definitely spending the extra 20 and riding Slinky in that case. Yeah. What is something that Hollywood Studios does better than any other park? The immersive theming probably. I think I would say immersion is probably what they do better. Their shows. Good answer. I wouldn't say better than any park for that because Animal Kingdom also has incredible shows but I was going to say ride. Grill rides.
[01:20:48] That's a great answer. And honestly the one that rivals it in my opinion is Epcot and people constantly underestimate what there is to do there. But really the amount of thrill rides at this park. Especially once Rock and Roller Coaster reopens. Yep. Okay. What's your unpopular Hollywood Studios opinion? My unpopular opinion is I was not a big fan of Rock and Roller Coaster because it would give me a headache but I'm kind of holding to see what's going to happen with this new Muppets theming. We'll see what happens. Is that it's a skippable park.
[01:21:17] Like don't skip it. It's worth going to even if you don't like Toy Story or Star Wars. Yeah that it's not a skippable park. I agree. Okay and then my last question this leans into what Katie just said. Mine was that that it's a skippable park. Yeah you have to go or that it's a half day park. This is a full full day. Alright and final question what would have been your pick for theming on Rock and Roller Coaster? Oh man there was a lot of people that would have liked to see this
[01:21:47] rethemed as like goofy movie with like power line and I'm a hundred percent in that camp. There are a lot of songs from the goofy movie that would have been great for a soundtrack and I would have been like yes let's stinking go. I have no idea. I would have just kept it Aerosmith forever. That's exactly what I was gonna say. I don't understand why we needed to retheme it. That cue was always long and the pre-shows I can think of a ton of other things that needed retheming. What I will say
[01:22:16] they have announced today as we're recording this tomorrow is whenever they're announcing what the full soundtrack is for the new Rock and Roller Coaster Muppets ride so I'll be interested to see. Oh is that right? What do you guys think about the first song that they released? Did you hear what song it was? I thought it was okay. I don't know all I know is that I guess so by the time people are listening to this we already have the full soundtrack so what do you think? I don't know. I'm still not sold. We'll see. I'm open. I've said on this show I'm open. I'm here to experience it.
[01:22:46] I'm here to listen. What I know is that there's a lot of big changes coming to Hollywood Studios and they are much needed and it's only going to get better. I agree. Once Monsters comes to this park this park is going to be probably uncomfortably crowded honestly it's going to be a crazy park. All right that was really fun. We all love Hollywood Studios.
